A politics of surprise

Isn’t it uncanny that we actually inhabit the strange, and not the familiar – as we often presume?

She, the strangeness of life and reality, fearsome and formidable, swirls and melts and dances around us, through us, and in us. She is not so difficult to notice. All we need do is look. The familiar is what we see through the corner of our eyes. We live out of the corner of our eyes. If we really noticed the world, we would be infected with her wonder.
